Steps on how to upgrade your RAM on your Laptop computer

1. Ensure that you have the correct type of RAM for your computer that you would like to install. (i.e. DDR, DDR2, DDR3, etc.)

2. On the bottom of your laptop you will see the symbol of that looks like two pieces of memory. (most of the time it is on the bottom of your laptop to install the RAM, if it is not, seek IT help because you will need to open the computer in a different manner then shown here to install the RAM)

3. Remove the panel that has the symbol of the RAM, this could be with as little as once screw or it could be multiple screws.

4. Once the panel is removed, you will see the RAM that is installed, you must remove this RAM by push out the two metals pieces that hold it in place as seen in the picture.

5. After you have removed the RAM, insert the new RAM as shown in the picture above.

6. Ensure that the metal tabs that you used to remove the previous RAM are set in place with the RAM that you have now inserted.

7. Now that the new RAM is inserted, replace the panel over the RAM to protect it from damage, and start your computer. If your computer does not start, then the RAM is not installed correctly and you must repeat steps 4-6.

8. If your computer starts, go to system information when Windows starts, this is under the start menu, accessories, system tools and click on system information.

9. Once the window appears, scroll down to see the total amount of physical memory installed. If this matches with the total amount that you installed (if you replaced all RAM) or if it is the amount that should be in total with what was installed, then you have correctly installed your new RAM. If not, then you must repeat steps 4-6. And check again.

10. After everything checks out, you have now successfully upgraded the RAM in your Laptop.
