There is a false assumption about back-ups and cybersecurity protection. The assumption is all you need are back-ups and you are protected from hackers.  The false assumption assumes if you get hacked, all you need to do is wipe your drives and install your latest back-up.

The real answer is no.  Quite often when an IT system is attacked by malware, a back-up may become infected with up the virus too. The issue is timing.  Is your back up not infected with a virus? Maybe, maybe not.  Do not rely on back-ups to keep you safe.  It is only one part of a system to protect your data.
